The Junior Band currently has a membership of around 21 players and in October 2006 were very pleased to acquire the services of a very talented musician and peripetetic music teacher called John Squires-Evans. John is locally based and also runs a large Junior Band based in Hambleton, Poulton-le-Fylde. John is well known to the Poulton-le-Fylde Band as a talented teacher of young adults and cornet/flugel player who has helped the band out on numerous occasions. John`s wife, Tracey, is also currently the Repiano player in the Poulton Band.
I
have also attended Poulton Junior Band each week since
it started in October 2002 helping out on Tuba with a
small amount of teaching along the way. As both of my
sons have played in the band since it started, I have
always found it a great way to spend a Wednesday evening
. Both myself and John have full Police Clearance for
working with children so you can be absolutely assured
that your child will be taught in a safe and welcoming
atmosphere. If you would like to find out more about
John or myself, simply find the
CONTACTS
page and click on our respective names. You are welcome
to sit in on any rehearsal and see the children having
fun and learning to be musicians in a relaxed and fun
atmosphere.
We are always on the lookout for a few more talented young players. If your child is a keen young brass player, we would like to meet them - preferable each Wednesday evening at 6.30pm ! Unfortunately, we can only take brass players and we are currently unable to offer training for complete beginners - we are considering offering this service in the future. We also have a very limited stock of instruments available for keen and committed young players.

Which Junior Band member
do you think this is aged 2 ?....... he now plays Euphonium !
History of the Junior Band:
The Junior Band was formed in October 2002 was first run by Mr Graham MacPhee and Andy Moore.
Graham decided to retire from conducting the Junior Band in May 2006, having run it for 3.5 years. Graham had a great rapport with the children and had many years of experience training youngsters upto a very good standard with Poulton, Crewe Co-op and North Fylde Brass Bands. His eldest son, Glenn, is a fine Euphonium player with the Poulton Band and Graham's youngest son, Gary, has played for the world famous Black Dyke Mills Band and has occasionally played with many well known orchestras including the Halle & Liverpool Phil. Graham also taught a good number of the Junior Band during his time with the band.
The Junior Band is aimed squarely at young players between the ages of 8 and 14 within the locality. Rehearsals are held on WEDNESDAY EVENINGS 6.30-7.30pm (TERM-TIME ONLY). Anyone wishing to join the Junior Training Band needs to contact the Junior Band by phoning Andy or John on (01253) 823437 or via the band`s CONTACTS page (you can simply turn up at the bandhut on a Wednesday evening if you wish !). The aim of the Junior Band is to be the best training band in the area playing at both concerts and winning competitions in the area.
Many thanks for your interest.
