STOP PRESS:

MUSICAL DIRECTOR RESIGNS:

After a very successful 18 months as Musical Director of the Poulton-le-Fylde Band, Cpt.Gary Clegg has decided to leave the band for personal reasons. The Band wish to thank Gary for all the hard work he has put in & success he has brought the band in the past 18 months as Musical Director and before that as Principal Trombone player.  Gary has now proved to be a very gifted conductor as well as being a gifted and very talented trombone player.

The band wishes Gary all the success he deserves in his future musical career and fully understands his reasons for leaving. We hope that he may consider conducting us again at some point in the future. During Gary`s time as Musical Director, the band achieved it`s highest ever 4Bars Rest World Ranking and guided the band to 3rd Place (1st Section) in the 2007 National Finals of Great Britain. This contributed to the band being promoted to the Championship Section with effect from 1st January 2009.

New Player:

The band welcomes Sophie Fannon on 3rd Cornet. Sophie is now the 4th player to graduate from the band`s Junior Section and, knowing already what a good player she is and what an asset to the main band she will be, wishes her all the best during her time with the main band.

Useful Information

The band was promoted into the 1st Section Nationally in 2003 and then the Championship Section with effect from 1st January 2009. Generally we try to compete in five major competitions each year including the North-West Regional Qualifiers (presently held at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool). We also attend our local competition in Fleetwood and as many others as possible. In 2007, the band qualified for the National Finals in the 1st Section representing the North West and came a very creditable 3rd in the finals held at Harrogate, Yorkshire on Saturday 29th September 2007. In early 2008, the band found itself being promoted to the National Brass Band Championship Section early in 2008 after a very successful set of competition results at national level over the past 3 years.

Booking Information:

All bookings for the band should be made through the Secretary.  Fees charged are to be discussed with the Secretary - we will take into account the type of function that we are being booked for as well as how long the engagement will last and how far we have to travel.

Rehearsals:

Main band rehearsals are currently held on Tuesdays & Fridays from 8.00pm-10.00pm at the Band Headquarters, Station Road, Poulton-le-Fylde with the Junior Band rehearsing each Wednesday evening 6.30-7.30pm (term-time only). All members are expected to attend and if a member of the band is unable to attend they are expected to phone the Secretary in advance. We would ask that anyone wishing to come to the band `for a blow` contact the Secretary to make suitable arrangements. We always encourage players at a loose end to come & join us at rehearsals. We are proud of the way that we treat players and all young players are especially welcomed and looked after.
